Brand

Speedo International Limited
In 1910, Alexander MacRae emigrated to Australia to live a happy life. In 1928, Jim Parsons, who had won a swimming competition, said "Speedo" at the end of the race and the new name of the now world-famous company was born. They were the first in the world to make non-releasable swimming suits and soon found that swimmers swam faster. In 1929, Sweden's Arne Borg set a new world record in one of their swimsuits. When a new swimwear design - the bikini - was created in Paris in the 1940s, Speed also went ahead with style. About 10 years later, they started selling in the USA, at which point the company moved to Nottingham, England. At the Olympic Games in Mexico, 27 of the 29 winners wore Speedo swimsuits. A lot of effort was put in, but in 1970 they realised that the best material for swimwear was nylon with elastane, which is what (almost) all the swimsuits in the world are made of today. But they weren't satisfied with that and wanted more. So in 1994, they were the first in the world to invent a chlorine-resistant fabric. Almost 90 years old, the company is now the most successful company producing not only swimwear but also other high quality accessories for swimmers of all ages.
