Carcassonne: Gostilne in katedrale je prva velika razširitev igre Carcassonne in v igro prinaša številne novosti. Dodani sta dve povsem novi vrsti ploščic: gostilne in katedrale. Poleg tega razširitev vključuje nove ploščice mest, cest in samostanov v svežih postavitvah. Vsak igralec prejme tudi »velikega Meepla«, ki šteje kot dva običajna Meepla. Dodan je še en celoten komplet Meeplov, zato lahko zdaj v igri sodeluje do 6 igralcev. Za lažje beleženje rezultatov so priložene tudi posebne točkovne kartice.
