we have a note for you regarding the safety of the bike handlebar carrier woom ORIGINAL model years 2018-2021 with single screw clip design in silver.
A low probability of the bar connecting the handlebar to the fork loosening or coming loose, affecting steering, was found. Please do not use the bike until the handlebars have been serviced.

1. What does the safety notice refer to?
The woom ORIGINAL 2018-2021 model years with the single-bolt handlebar clamp design require maintenance of the handlebar clamp: there is a risk of the bar connecting the handlebar to the fork loosening or coming loose, posing a risk of injury.
Therefore, a safety stop notice has been issued to all riders of the woom ORIGINAL bikes concerned until the handlebars have been serviced. All bike owners are entitled to a free woom ORIGINAL handlebar carrier maintenance kit or free service, which we offer at Kakadu.
Please stop using the bike until it has been properly serviced!
2. Which woom bicycles are covered by the handlebar carrier safety notice?
This notice relates to ORIGINAL woom bicycles of the 2018-2021 model year. The bicycles in question can be identified by the design of the single-screw handlebar mount, which is silver in colour.

woom ORIGINAL bikes manufactured and sold before August 2018 have only one handlebar carrier bolt, but are not subject to the notification. This bolt is black and not silver. Also woom NOW, woom OFF, woom OFF AIR and woom UP are not subject to the notice.
Also not covered by the handlebar carrier safety campaign are woom ORIGINAL models with a handlebar carrier with a double screw clamp and newer woom ORIGINAL models (from April 2021 to the present). This is because the bikes have a redesigned design using two bolts, which increases safety.
3. How serious is the risk to the safety of the carrier?
The risk of the handlebar carrier becoming loose is very small. The risk is more likely with heavily used bikes that have not been properly cared for and maintained. This risk is increased if the clamp bar bolt is not tightened sufficiently with a torque wrench to the recommended 10 Nm.
4. What has woom done in this area?
As soon as woom became aware of the problem with the safety of the handlebar carrier, the Product and Compliance teams set about investigating the cause and possible solutions. They carried out internal and external testing to determine the best course of action.
As testing showed that the risk is more likely with heavily used bikes that have not been properly cared for and maintained, they decided to launch a major rectification campaign and inform the woom community through newsletters, social media and the distributor network. They are publicising the issue worldwide and offering free handlebar safety kits. Customers in Europe can opt for a one-off service of their handlebar carrier at their local woom dealer or receive a pack at home.
Customers are strongly advised not to ride their bikes until all necessary measures have been taken.
5. How is the rudder carrier serviced?
- Please check that the woom is an ORIGINAL F-Series (model years 2018 to 2021), which has a single-bolt stem clamping design. Check here
- Tools needed: 5 mm Allen key, solvent degreaser, paper towel or cloth, mounting paste
- Loosen the screw with a 5 mm Allen key
- Pull the handlebar bracket upwards
- Clean the fork feed tube
- Apply the mounting paste evenly on the fork steering tube
- Reinstall the rudder bracket
- Align the rudder
- Tighten the screw. Torque: 10 Nm
- Check: tilt and turn the handlebar.
- The woom ORIGINAL is now ready for use. woom recommends that you check every 12 months that the bolt is tightened properly (10 Nm).

Apply mounting paste to the handlebar of the fork and then tighten the handlebar with the appropriate torque to secure it firmly, so that the woom bike will be ready to ride for many years to come.
